Doulaing
The Act of educating, loving, respecting, listening, embracing, advocating for and assisting a birthing person prenatally during labor, childbirth and after!
I am truly excited to begin expanding my private practice to now offer a complete array of Doula Services for Birthing people. I am now certified through Perinatal Support International.
So what’s a Doula?
Well, it's pronounced Doo-lah, and it stems from the greek work meaning “to serve”. A Doula is an individual offering emotional, informational and physical support to a birthing person during the prenatal, labor, and postpartum period.
As a mom of 5 (yes, you read that correctly) I continue to remind myself of the anxiety, and uncertainty I felt stepping into the space of motherhood. Would I know how to take care of this little one? What will labor be like? And will I ever sleep again? Although I had plenty of support from my village (family, and friends), at times I often felt alone.
The path to birth is quite unfamiliar and full of excitement and sometimes fear. Yes, there are books that you can buy to try to prepare you for this journey, but the truth is, this birth story is organically yours.
My role as a therapist will provide a foundation of trust and knowledge to work through past traumas, fears, or worries surrounding childbirth and parenthood. You will learn about the importance of staying “rooted” in a space of love and compassion to bring forth life in a beautiful way.
The Doulas' role is not just for the birthing parent, but for her support team which includes, partners, grandparents, and children. Understanding what questions to ask your provider, educating you about the birthing process and surrounding your will guidance is my goal. I also believe that the 4th trimester is very vital to healing and Restoration, so being intentional about your mental health and what support you need is key to a more grounded, healthy you!
